I have regarded being Deputy Mayor of Bexley as a true privilege and an honour. My wife (Bal) and I throughly enjoyed visiting parts of the borough which perhaps, normally we would not have known about. The community of Bexley is truly AMAZING!
When I was offered the opportunity in May 2022, I thought the role of a deputy would be simply a ‘back up’ for the mayor. However, Councillor O’Hare are I soon began work on meeting thousands of our residents each month, some days we would both be out, whilst on other days one would be out in the morning whilst the other would be out in the afternoon.
The fact that during the year we had a Platinum Jubilee, The Sad Passing of a Monarch and The Coronation of a King, these are once in a lifetime opportunities which may never happen again. This was truly an extremely memorable year for my family and I.
During my term, which ends on Wednesday 24th May 2023, I have personally attended 110+ events, these have included new businesses, school awards, school competitions, Tom Jones’s 108th birthday, citizenship ceremonies, fundraisers, street parties and much, much more. The Mayor, Councillor Nick O’Hare and the entire mayoral team have raised over £20,000 for the mayors charity – Avenues.
The mayoral team consisting of Dave, Karen, Paul, Alison, Tina and Jane have been outstanding, I believe its this team, their professionalism and above all the pride they take in the Mayor/Deputy is what sets Bexley’s Mayoralty above the rest.
